gluon + 3D Digital Archive Project
Is it possible to preserve the memory of architecture or cities for future generations
Metabolism Quantized
Commentary
Architects once renowned as masters can be recreated with modern technology.
In the 3D Digital Archive Project, led by gluon, structures that have unfortunately had to be demolished due to aging are preserved as detailed 3D data
By allowing people to experience digitally these real sensations and structures, the Project breathes new life into architecture
If we use these technologies, we might be able to hold architecture tours that people could take part in from all over the world, or hold concerts or other events in virtual spaces, creating new memories for vanished buildings
Buildings that existed in physical space can find new uses digitally through combining with today’s technologies
This process could be seen as encouraging the metabolism of architecture, just like replacing cells
In addition, by turning existing buildings and cities into 3D data, gluton is also working on the concept of “Common Ground” that connects the digital and physical worlds, creating a world shared by people, robots, avatars, and more
